When booking for a college conference please ensure that you allow a minimum of 10 days for your application to be processed by the college. If you have been allocated a place on a conference you will receive a confirmation letter and a receipt of payment. Please note that pre-payment is required, invoices will not be issued.

Description: The College is responding to the NICE guidance and as a result, is running a series of study days to assist occupational therapists in rolling out the guidance across England.

Delegates will explore the opportunities open to occupational therapists to work within the active ageing agenda. At these interactive study days delegates will consider the impact of the guidance on their practice, and conclude with an individual action planning session to deliver the recommendations. The outcome for delegates will be to act as champions for the profession in actioning the guidance in their locality.

WRI & WEIS Study Day Vocational Rehabilitation & the Model of Human Occupation with Sue Parkinson, MOHOST author

Vocational Rehabilitiation is high on the occupational therapy agenda. The ability for occupatioanl therapists to understand the work issues facing their clients relies on them asking pertinent questions about a person's experience of work roles and the work environment. This isn turn leads to negotiation of effective treatment goals and the planning of successful interventions.

  • The WRI addresses psychosocial and environmental factors impacting on gaining/returning to work.For use with an assessment of clients' functional capacity with recommended questions for workers with recent injuries/disabilities, and people with chronic disabilities who have limited work histories.
  • The Work Environment Impact Scale (WEIS) is a semi-structured interview and rating scale, designed to assist the therapist in gathering information about how individulas with physical or psychosocial disabilities experience and perceive their work enviroments. Typical candidates for this assessment are people who are experiencing difficulty in their jobs, or whose owrk is interrupted by an injury or episode of illness.
  • For OT’s involved in vocational rehabilitation, requiring an introduction to WRI and WEIS, irrespective of their level of knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation. Please note that in order to use the assessments it is necessary to purchase the manuals but attending a workshop is not essential.

    Introduction to job retention case management training

    SEN Statements and Tribunals: The science, legalities and ethics!

    Are you aware of the implications of writing contributions for educational statements and evidence for tribunals?

    This event is aimed at occupational therapists working with children who contribute to children’s Special Educational Needs Statutory Assessments and Tribunals in all settings, health and social care settings, private practice and education.

    It will provide factual information on the legal framework to enable occupational therapists to understand the process. The day will also review the impact of writing such reports and explore the practical and ethical dilemmas occupational therapists face.

    The day will be led by Nick Armstong, a barrister with a wealth of experience in Education Law and Tribunals, with as session from aTribunal Panel Member. Audience participation and the sharing of experiences will be an integral part of the day.
